A Special Ride for theEnvironmental Pope
We will build the first all-electric popemobile, a modifiedFisker Ocean SUV, at our facility in Europe, another exampleof Magna’s commitment to supporting sustainable products.
The popemobile is the name given to a one-of-a-kind vehicleused to transport Pope Francis at public events. The specialFisker Ocean will feature a solar roof and an interior withcarpets made from recycled plastic bottles recovered fromthe ocean.
The customized Ocean is a fitting choice for the pontiff whorepresents the 1.2 billion Roman Catholics in the world.Pope Francis, who issues frequent calls to protect “ourcommon home,” is known as the “environmental pope” andtakes his name from St. Francis, the patron saint of theenvironment.
The Fisker Ocean is set to roll off Magna’s assembly line inNovember 2022. Fisker Inc. said there are currently morethan 16,000 reservation holders for the Ocean. It will beavailable in premium versions with such features as all-wheel-drive and Ultra High Range (approximately 350 miles).
Expertise inElectric VehicleBatteryEnclosures
When the 2022 GMC Hummer EV and theall-electric 2022 Ford F150 Lightning pickuptruck hit the road, they will be equipped witha key component from Magna – ourinnovative battery enclosure.
Battery enclosures, which all electric vehicles(EVs) need, house high-voltage batteries, electrical components, sensors, andconnectors. They contribute to the safetyaspects EVs by protecting criticalcomponents from damage, heat, and water.
Each battery enclosure is designed for aspecific vehicle since there is no one-size-fits-all solution. It’s another way Magna iscreating smart, innovative and responsibleproducts for some of the most excitingvehicles on the market.
Our expertise in this market presents asignificant opportunity for Magna becauseevery EV needs one.
