A World-Class Approach

to Fighting

COVID-19

For many of us, this has been an alarming and challenging year as we battle a global pandemic and work through an economic recession. All of our lives have been completely disrupted.

We extend our deepest sympathies to those around the world who have lost family, friends and colleagues to COVID-19. Our hearts go out to you at this difficult time. We also acknowledge the frustration and pain that comes with knowing something as simple as a hug or a handshake could result in making someone else sick.

Months into the pandemic, we look back at a crisis that began for Magna on January 25, when we did the first COVID-19 test for an employee returning to their home base from China. That moment was a call to action for us to make a difference in the lives of our employees and the communities in which we do business. How we have responded reflects who we are. It defines us as individuals and as an organization.

Simply put, Magna brought a world-class approach to dealing with the pandemic, enabling the company to adjust, adapt and protect our employees. Our executive team – Don Walker, Swamy Kotagiri, Aaron McCarthy, Tom Skudutis and the group presidents – would accept nothing less. Our ingenuity, innovation and best-in-class attitude allowed us to put a system in place that safeguards the health and wellbeing of our employees.

Magna’s Smart Start playbook, with its safety protocols and procedures, has become a standard in the industry. Our agility and ability to adapt to the demands of new mobility also enabled us to transform our factories and offices into places where employees say they feel safer than any other place – even their homes.

Just as we have done throughout the darkest days of the pandemic, we must remain vigilant. Vaccines and new therapies are possible, but not guaranteed. It is likely that COVID-19 will be with us for some time, and that requires a major shift in mindset and behavior. Everyone can help by:

-Continuing to follow the Be Smart recommendations

-Say “Boo to the Flu” by getting a flu shot, something that’s even more important during the pandemic

-Take care of your physical and mental wellbeing

-Avoid social events outside of work

-Show compassion by treating others with dignity and respect

We have taken proactive steps as an organization so we can be a paradigm for the right way to handle a crisis such as COVID-19. Let’s look back on this moment and be proud of the difference we made together.
